East Midlands Hauliers on Road to Recovery

There have been claims by several haulage companies in the last few weeks that business has improved. One logistics company based in leicestershire are particularly happy having won a new contract worth £250,000 a year.

Construction Hopes Rise

Housing, commercial and civil engineering output all rose in the last quarter giving more confidence in the industry and striong indications that business conditions will continue to improve over the next year. The reason for this optimism is due to various company expansions, previously postponed projects starting and lots of promotional activity. It was noted that firms in the construction industry were also shedding less staff than previously.

Luxury Car Sales Rise

An increase in demand since the beginning of the year in nearly new luxury cars like Audi, BMW, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz has created a 30% rise in sales for one Derby car supermarket.

Well Known High Street Opticians Merge

Boots Opticians and Dolland and Aitchison have completed their merger forming the second largest optical business in the U.K.

Other Indicators of Change

  • Retail sales have been reported to rise by 4.6% in April
  • Manufacturing output declined by a smaller amount in March than any other time in last 13 months
  • National Institute for Economic and Social Research said that the rate of decline of GDP had slowed in April.
  • Housing market activity in the UK is picking up slightly, with mortgage approvals up 4% and surveyors reporting increased interest in house purchases.
